Hainanese Chicken Rice (Thai Food) – Khao Man Gai ข้าวมันไก่

Hainanese Chicken Rice or Khao Man Gai in Thai, this dish is very popular street food that you can find it any corners in Thailand. 

Originally this recipe came from Hainan and spread into many countries in Southeast Asia. Rice will be cooked with chicken stock and served on top with boiled chicken and sauce.

It is a nice and easy recipe and also can cook at home.

Ingridients: For Chicken
  • 500 g. chicken breast
  • 3-4 coriander roots
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 cups of water
Ingridients: For Rice
  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1/4 cup fat of chicken
  • 2 tbsp. garlic, minced
  • 30 g. ginger
  • 1 1/2 cup of water
Ingridients: For Sauce
  • 2 tbsp. ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp. garlic, minced
  • 1-2 chili, minced
  • 2 tbsp. salted soy bean
  • 1-2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. black soy sauce
How to cook: Rice
  1. Add fat of chicken
  2. Fry until oil comes out and remove chicken crackling
  3. Add ginger, garlic, and rice
  4. Stir fry around 2 minutes over lower heat
  5. Transfer into rice cooker and add water
  6. Cook the rice and wait until cooked
How to cook: Chicken
  1. Boil water
  2. add coriander roots, salt, and chicken
  3. Simmer over lower heat around 20 minutes
  4. Cut chicken into well pieces. Set aside.
How to make: Sauce
  1. Mix ingredients of sauce together
